engine start up
« on: July 30, 2006, 02:37:55 am »
My car wont start  :?
i did a rebuild on my Fiat 1.9TD engine.
I have putted a new head on it.
i also tooked the pump of, an i placed a 11mm plunjer (normal: 9mm). The camplate is from a Fiat (same engineblock, other pistons & head) a TDI-m, the camplate is as deep as the original, but i didnt looked good enough to the angle is the same, at my first view it looked the same!
The pump is tested by Bosch, and i know he turned back the quantityscrew, he said the pump was ok.

my engine was ready to start, i first wanna make oil pressure offcorse to save the bearing from my turbo. (i started on the enginestarter  :(  normaly i start by pulling the car after a other car, but it cant becouse the car is not ready on the outside) so after i got oil pressure, i gived the dieselpump-solonoid the signal, an i tryied to start it, i placed a elektric pump to help the dieselpump. After trying to start, i tooked some gaz (dont know this is the rght word > this is the thing i used http://blogs.citypages.com/blotter/images/blotter%20gas%20112305.jpg ) with this gaz it started, and it start running diesel to (thats what i smelted and saw comming a lot of smoke out the exhaust) but it got no any HP, the engine can run on 800rpm, when puching the pedal once to the floor it revs to 2000rpm, and it comming back slowly (with my pedal to the metal) to 800, if i let my pedal free, the engine stops, when i start with this gaz and the engine run 800, somethimes it just stops. i can not rev more than 2000rpm, after that, the engine stops
i was trying yesterday, a whole day  :?   in the morning a had 70°C water.
but offcorse i can not start every 1minit, i wanna save my starter to

What can be the problem, i even used a bottle to make shure the engine gets clean diesel. Is there still to much air in the pump? maybe the quantityscrew is pulled to much back. air in the injector lines?

right know i cant try anymore becouse a got a little oil problem wich will be fixed monday ore teusday.
I hope someone can help my start this pump an engine up.

Greetz, Benjamin (i hope my english is not too bad)

hmmm might be a timing problem?  Or some adjustments on the pump?

bubbles in the line will make it miss, but you could still rev it.  If the guy from bosch said the pump was okay, I'd take his word for it.. (for now)  Did he actually test the pump?

I think 'Myna diesel'(Finland) goes beyond anything us poor deprived north americanos can get...unless they only do inline pumps.

180 out, there are so many holes in the pump pulley....and i am easily confused or distracted.

I guess it is also possible to get the pump that far out internaly while you have it apart.

i found the problem  :D

There is a screw for the supply from the diesel at the pump, i used a screw for it wich is for the exit of the diesel (wich go back to the tank).

FINALY my engine runs  8)

the screw from the "out" got a constriction.

Tnx for reply's anyway!!!!!!!!

okay, after running a couple minits my engine stoped, again  :x
the engine could rev, but once the rpm go under 1500 the engine stoped.
the engine was very noisy, a sound like you think the valves had to much play but loud! much smoke.
so i thought the camplate was wrong in it, i tried to change it 180, the car was not so noisy, but no power, and much much smoke.

so i heard a click / tick when i let my pump rotate, it didnt sound good and the pump valve on the camplate are very hard, so it wasnt easy to rotate the pump.

it seems to be the camplate is a little bit difrent
i used mu stock camplate, the 11mm plunjer in again.

it runs again and its very smooth  8)  :D  8)
I'm very glad, let the bigger turbo come  :D
i gonna drive soft the first 1000km.
