MKI 1.6td swap problem
« on: July 11, 2006, 03:16:09 pm »
Hey everyone im very new to diesels but i just bought a caddy and i swapped a 1.6td into it and i seem to have a problem.
i got all the air out of the fuel line but it doesn't wanna run. i crank it and it will fire up and then die. I dunno if this is a common problem with mk1 td. but it seems like its not get fuel. Do i need to mod the fuel pump?seems like theres not enough pressure coming in the lines. Can someone please help im all out of ideas. thanks

Are there any fuel or air blockages? When was the fuel filter replaced? What about the air filter? Maybe your starter isn't cranking fast enough to get it started, or your glow plugs aren't working.  :? Lots of possibilties

How long does it run for?
Did you swap the engine out and then into the caddy with no changes?
Was the caddy originally diesel?

You might have a bad stop solenoid. Turn the key to run and see if it is getting 12V (it's the only wire on the IP) if not figure out why. Even if it is getting power it may be stuck closed. To check crack open an injector line and crank the car over, if you see fuel coming out the solenoid is good, if not and it is getting 12v then it's time to replace it.

try removing the return line and attatching a small funnel and filing the IP with diesel. Maybe there is an airlock ?
