MK2 GTDs have intercoolers from the factory.. yet your MK3 does not have one?
Well, that's not entirely true, malone. In fact, mine is a GTD, yet it doesn't have an IC.
I'm aware the GTD's were only sold in Europe, thus, a little confusion of yours. GTD is only the version of the car, as it's commercially available. There are GL TD's, CL TD's, and maybe others. So, the GTD is just the TD in a GTI
outfit.
JR and RA/SB (the latter with IC) engines for 1.6TD's, among them, some versions are named as
GTD's for having things like alloy wheels and other equipment features similar to the GTI.
Then there is the 1.6TD Katalysator or Eco as you know it in NA. That's has its 1V engine only and relatively little equipment. Not GTD, of course. I realize this is a comon version overthere, but not here in Europe.
As for Mk3's, there's only one 1.9TD: the AAZ. Some are named as GTD's for the same reasons as the Mk2's, and the other's, simply TD's. But the engine is all the same and no IC on Mk3's IDI.
IC = intercooler, for envy
