Hi guys,
New to the forums and also new to the wonders of Diesels!!
So here is my issue. So I have a 1984 MK1 1.6L diesel. I have changed oil in it and oil filter and put in 15 W40 grade oil. Now the engine runs a little bit over half on the heat gauge which from what I read isn't that bad, but the issue I have is when I'm driving the oil light will flicker on and get progressively brighter the higher RPM I go. So once I switched gears the light lessens. Now I have already change the oil sensor and now I honestly don't know what else to do to try to correct the issue. Is it the fact that the oil that I'm using is too thin or too thick maybe.
I don't know! >_<
Any help you guys can offer me I would greatly appreciate it and I will thank you ahead of time.
Now that is a weird problem. Normally we see higher pressure with higher RPM. It is at IDLE that the light gets low pressure and starts to flicker. So I have to wonder if you have the right sensor. I thought there was also one that would tell you if your pressure is too high. I could be thinking another vehicle right now.
My solution would be to find a buddy with a good mechanical gauge and see what happens to the pressure at high RPM's and if the light comes on at the same time. You might have just found an new version of the VW upshift light.
Good luck and report back eh? And good of you to join us here and learn the ways of the diesel.
If you overfilled the oil by chance the crank can splash the oil around, causing it to aerate which will cause a drop in pressure. Just an idea.

id say check the screen in the pick up tube, and does your car have the dynamic oil light? get a mechanical gauge and actually check your oil pressure so that you know if its a pressure problem or a problem with the oil light system.
aside from^above(the screen). bad oil pump? wrong oil pump? bad pump drive, vac pump? intermed. shaft-etc.?
is it a hydro head?
Could be a cheap oil filter causing the issue. Fram is notorious for causing the same issue on the gas cars
