That depends on what turbo you plan on using.

Hi, and thanks for the reply!,

That's a good deal for someone, but it's not what I need.

I'm looking for a custom made bracket, that allows the stock TDI turbo clearance when installed on a vanagon diesel. this was made by Greaseworks (and others folks) specifically for this application.

regards,
Steve

If you are talking about the stock K03 or GT15, you might want to reconsider.  The AAZ K03 or T2 with matching manifold will fit without interference using the stock mounting bracket and give similar performance.  You could also use the AAZ manifold and build an adapter plate to mount the stock turbo without interference.  Either way, you may find it's less work than remaking the mounting bracket or trying to source a used modified one.  IMO, there are better turbo choices, though.

hi Andrew,

What do you think is a better turbo? i'm inclined to keep the turbo that came with the 1Z/AHU as it's already there... but interested in what you think would be an improvement.

thanks,
Steve

I saw that when searching, and I  THINK it would work, but it looks like it'll need more adapters/ motor mounts to make it work...

here's another "link" to a US builder, Tony Sanchez, who advertizes on THE SAMBA.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1731371

I've been in contact with Tony, and he can make up one in short time, and he's easy to chat with.

So, now there's two builders of these mounts, in addition to those made but NLA from Justin at Greaseworks.

thanks,
Steve

Note, Tony no longer makes a support for the stock diesel vanagon carrier bars, but only the 83.5 and newer carrier bars.

I contacted that place over the pond to see about it. As I am on the hunt for an 82' carrier bar mount.

The aluminum brackets for the '82 vs. '83+ are the same aside from one very small hole for the mount alignment pin which is very easy to add.  If someone is selling a bracket that fits an '83+ it should also fit the '82.
