New 1.6TD Pre-combustion Chamber Inserts

I just received eight new 1.6TD pre-combustion chamber inserts in the post today.  They were a challenge to get.  I got them from a company called Engine Parts UK.  They will not sell to people in the US.  In fact, they require that the parts be sold to the person who pays for them which complicates things a bit more.  The end cost was $225 for the 8 inserts, so $28.13 each to the door.  A bit pricey, but a whole lot less than a wrecked engine.

Dimensions appear to be perfect.  They have them for the 1.6 non turbo and the AAZ also along with having them oversize.

Thanks for the update on your efforts libby. I hope I never need them for my AAZ but if I do. . .
Until I fix my transmission, there's little worry of my inserts going South

What are these made of? I prefer steel over Inconel is why I ask.

They are magnetic.  I can't really say beyond that.

The magnetic ones are the ones I seem to like. The non magnetic *assuming Inconel* are what let loose on my head. Seems like they grow too much for the aluminum.

Apparently certain inconel alloys are magnetic and some aren't (as is the case with stainless).  My understanding is that it depends on how the iron atoms align within the metal.   

From a small and inconclusive study, I have found that the inserts that are magnetic are less prone to cracking. 

It will hopefully be years (or forever) before I know whether or not these ones crack.

The vw pre-combustion chamber inserts are on page 244 and 245.  Their in-house part # for 1.6TD std size inserts is VWPCC795000STD.  Their measurements correspond to the actual parts, but many of the engine codes are wrong.  Obviously the AFN, 1Z, AHU etc do not have PCCs....  Best is to knock out an insert, measure it and get the correct part based on size.

It looks like the part# VWPCC765000 is the OS for the 1.6 non-turbo.  I wonder if they stock a VWPCC765000STD for standard size 1.6 non-turbo inserts.  VWPCC795002STD would be for standard size AAZ PCCs.

Don't know if this helps as far as the original VAG numbers but have two sets here: 1) set roughly the same dimensions (slightly larger) to the VWPCC795000STD insets is in a bag labeled VW #068-103-391 (another associated number on the bag is 16-9024), but i believe might be for a 1.5 NA since it is a 068 prefix with no triangle stamp and the other 2) set is VW #069-103-391 (with two other part number 16-9023 and Mctelli 120019) so the right prefix for a turbo diesel (or the bag was mislabeled 069 somewhere?) but its size corresponds to a slightly oversized (but maybe that is because of the plastic bag wrap) VWPCC765000 insert and it has no triangle stamp.

Rereading this may be it just confuses things.

Not meaning to hijack now but does anyone know if the 1.5 precups are strong enough to use in a 1.6 turbo (since the standard size would fit)? Don't really see the point of using them for a 1.5l head rebuild.

Pulled the head off our 1.6 to port it and discovered all the PCs are cracked.  I can't in good conscience put it back together like that, esp. running 30+ PSI.

Hope this isn't a threadjack... I have a request into Eurocar (in Italy) for a quote on new PCs.  Has anyone successfully gotten new PCs through them?

One of the other options I'm exploring is getting a used AAZ head, but I'll likely be in the same predicament with needing new PCs.  Has anyone successfully procured AAZ PCs through NAPA?

remove the atm from the part number for the vw number
