Busted clutch spring
« on: July 10, 2014, 11:09:13 am »
I'd heard of it happening, but hadn't had the pleasure of it happening to me until now.

Symptoms: all of a sudden the clutch wouldn't disengage at all.... intermittently.  I still had good pedal feel, so I figured the master and slave were ok. Pulled it yesterday, and sure enough.

How old was the clutch? Do you do hard launches?

Seen sachs do that a few times now.  Put a LUK in last time.

I've only owned the car for a month... bought it to use as a donor. The car has 325k, no idea of the mileage on the clutch.

But I can guarantee that the last owner wouldn't have launched it hard, and he owned it for 4 years.

I'm pretty gentle with stuff. But, I did manage to break at least one of the springs when I had to stop a run-away oil gulper.

I continued to run that engine with that clutch and the broken bits of the spring ricocheted around in the bell housing and everything in there got SEVERELY peened and looked like it had traveled through an asteroid belt. I long for those good ol' days......
