AAZ 8mm exhaust valve part numbers / length?
« on: May 05, 2014, 03:05:35 pm »
OK, so my machinist has admitted that they can't find an exhaust valve for my prothe 8mm aaz head.

It's up to me to buy it.

From searching here, it appears that the VW Part number is 074109611 - $37.70 + ship from 1stvwparts or who knows how much from my local stealership.

As for aftermarket valves, it appears that AE and TRW both make them?

The AE part number - which also appears as a Sealed Power part number - seems to be V91334. RockAuto says that this has a 7.950mm stem and is 95.100mm long.

partsgeek, we're all aware, obscures part numbers. But they show their part number W0133-1734357 as an AE valve that is 95.5mm long for a mid 90's 1.9l engine.

They also show their part number  W0133-1735138 as a TRW valve that is 95.5mm long.

Both on this list: http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/1996/volkswagen/golf/engine_mechanical/exhaust_valve.html

prothe claims that the aaz takes 068109611L but everyone else thinks that is a 1.6L hydro valve?

I cannot help on your question, but you could get 7mm guides and use TDI valves IIRC. The 1.6 had smaller valves so they should not work or work well in the aaz application.

I quickly plugged the number into autohausaz.com and it offered a result for under 15 clams. Go look.

Yeah that's the AE part. I was about ready to buy it when i saw some discrepancy with the length of the valve as specified by various people and/or sites.

I might anyway, and then have the guy building the head double check the length vs. one of the valves i have.

the TRW part number for an 8mm AAZ exhaust valve appears to be 33049

Actually, I checked the Febi number on this list and it looks good too:

"W0133-1734357"  is a www.worldpac.com part number.
Lot of people distribute stuff for them.

A few years ago they pulled OE part numbers from their software
that resellers use alltogether.  You could search a OE PN and it would translate to a result,
but if you looked something up by application it only showed the custom W0xxx number.
Kind of a ***ty move.  They might have gone back but
I quit using them at that point.

Well now I'm stuck.

UPS dropped off the valve, i took it to the machinist, he measured it and it came up short. literally.

my OE exhaust valves measure 96.8756mm overall length, the new AE valve measures 95.0468mm.

Package has AE logo all over it, AE part number V91334, and VW part number 074-109-611.

Are you sure about the measurements? .0001 mm is in the millionths of an inch range. (.000001") He does not have a mic that will measure that small, so how did he come up with the length.

calipers are only accurate to .005"

When he sets it up he will have to put a thicker shim in it and that should be all. I don't see the issue, what am I missing?

I'm a n00b, but, do hydro heads have shims too?
