Trying to make this work with my 1.6td.
Burn your money can get them new for $800. They are the AAZ version as well so a Bigger exhaust side.

I would say a Holset HE211W capable of a proven 170+whp 1.6TD for 600$ shippped would be more bang for the bucks

ok but what will give me boost BEFORE the engine hits the red line?
it's low-end power i worry about on my 1.6
30psi at 2500rpm on the HE211W
I haven't driven my 1.6 since November 11th 2013, but I have the slightly bigger HE 221w. It spools very well, not as good as a VNT 15, but better than a K24. I would assume the HE211w would be even better spooling. I think if you are having issues with spool there are some things to try before a turbo: Exhaust pipe, Down pipe, Intake Manifold, Injection pump, intercooler and intercooler piping size to name a few. Also, what kind of expectation do you have? I liked the K24 I had, except it ran out of air, I liked the Hybrid T3 I had but it blew up 2 times. I really don't like smaller turbos as they run out of air so fast, especially on ported heads that I have used. You may love something that boosts at idle, but is spent by 3,500 RPM is why I ask. My MK2 has an AGS trans that I had a 3,67 R&P put in, so running out of air and shifting early really stinks as I have plenty of gear left. If you have a closer ratio box you maybe shifting anyway.
the holset isnt a bolt on though so probably at least $200 worth of parts and time.

Nor are some of the K14's he listed for a less and worse turbo.
Yeah, but bbob posted that BYM can get new AAZ bolt-on K14 for $800.

Yes this. I agree if you want to do fabbing I would rather get the holset than make some generic k14 from another vehicle work.
6 one way 1/2 dozen the other if you had 600 in the holset and 200 in fab for 800 or 800 for the k14. Since all holsets come factory with the 360 degree main bearing I would get it if it were even a 300 difference to the holset's disadvantage. That bearing costs around 100.00 by itself for the k14. When I put the 360 on the T3 it was night and day difference over the stock 270 degree bearing.
It will come down to how much does he want to spend and what goals for his setup will he have.

It's true. I might be able to knock a few dollars off that price. My supplier seems to be extra favourable to me lately...

you think turbo rebuilder guy that did my turbo would put in a 360 bearing into mine for a decent price?
it will need rebalanced and he will probably charge full price plus 100 dollars as the 360 degree is an upgrade not included in the regular kit.
