Valve cover

I would have posted this in my other thread but thought I need more attention. 

Will the valve cover leak a ridiculous amount? I belive the PO over torqued the crap out of it and today after driving it for about an 2 hour span I am down a good amount of oil. I was 3/4 court low 2 days ago. It looks like its only quart or two low but who knows. The driving was city and 55mph on highway.

So I went through 3 qts of oil in 14 miles. Whats your guys thoughts its starts toward the top. Im thinking the guy used rtv to seal the valve and it isnt holding at all at the top of the engine near camshaft. Did not leak a drop sitting in driveway for 3 days. Until I drove the now 80 miles today.

So you've gone though 17 quarts of oil? I don't think the valve cover could leak that badly without it being very, very obvious. Worst comes to worst you could always RTV the valve cover in place (with a gasket still) until you can find a decent valve cover. I recommend a G60 one.

Thats a ton of oil to leak and beyond sweating.

If you had no cam splash shield and the improper mating of gasket/studs on valve cover or it blew out somewhere I would imagine it could leak a good amount.  For example people like the one piece rubber gaskets that come in a kit with its own studs.  If you blindly put this rubber gasket on stock studs it won't sit down all the way and oil would piss all over.  Yeah I did it like a dummy my first time not reading I needed different studs

Did you just get this vehicle?  You need to look over everything.  

As an example I almost killed my rabbit when putting it back on the road almost a year ago.  I didn't even get an exit on the freeway before I caught pressure drop in oil and parked car right there.  I was freaking out in the dark, not understanding since I broke engine in, etc. before making it road worthy.

I had the rotary type vacuum pump lid on with hand tight screws.  Those loosened in that short amount of time enough to spit oil out all over the engine to where the pump couldn't pick it up.  That was a dumb mistake of mine

that much oil there... cam seal blew out.... be like starting it up with no oil filter on it...

I did look everything over started it looked again let it run for 10 min drove it 15 miles no leaks. Drove it home 50 miles. Drove it 30 miles to work and then drove like 80 miles and then it started leaking.

My bigger issue is I dont have a Bentley. Which is now on its way.

The valve cover is coming off tonight incase I need to do some cleaning and then I will do some more investigaton into the issue. If all goes well the rabbit will be running on monday. Or not leaking oil on Monday. Have vavle cover and camshaft seal coming in mail with Bentley

Studs for the stock cork gasket have a collar at the base where it mates to the head. Rubber ones are just straight studs. Also, with the rubber style, just regular bolts or allan bolts can be used instead of studs. If you happened to get the cork gasket, dabs of silicone between the cork and rubber pieces will help prevent further leakage. Hopefully you got the rubber unit, but if not, you can just upgrade if you get a different VC one day!

The g60 cover is also a great suggestion, far beyond aesthetics. I upgraded to the rubber gasket and my VC still leaked like a mother. The thin steel get's warped over the years from over torquing. I put my g40 cover on the same gasket and it hasn't leaked a drop. Any thick, sturdy, aluminum valve cover will help! It may also help dissipate more heat  Added bonus? As if looking good and being leak free wasn't enough

I did get the rubber. Rubber is something I use all the time to make sure fluids stay where they are supposed to be. Do g40 and g60 have fitment issues when it comes to the diesels? I might pick up a g40 ive heard people say g60 has timing belt shield fitment issues.

Lol good call! Fitment issues may also have to do with dropping it onto studs, in comparison to dropping bolts or studs through it while it's already resting on the head. First time i put it on, seated perfectly, no issues, dropped the studs through it. Second time, some of the studs were still in the head, it hit the cover a little bit, I spit on it, gave it a a smack, and it went right in. I have a g60 cover too, but there are also two different types of g60 covers. I may toss mine on this week just for fun and let you know how it goes!

Other than needing to drill all the stud holes in my head I had no issue installing an G60 cover on my AAZ engine. Since you have a 1.6 it's a bolt on affair. The only exception is the breather tubes will need some customizing.

If my valve cover is in good shape then I will keep it if its warped, g60 going on. They look cooler. Now I just need to see some other people's valve covers .

Just saw the thread you started about the car! Looks like a nice find!

Here is a g60 and g40 side by side. I think this is an early model g60 cover though? I haven't seen them side by side, but I know there is another different version.

the top black one came on euro 2.0 tall block counter flow engines... mine has one... came on it.. and i saw it in the car before it was removed (10mi dent free crash test car... wonder if that place still exists.. pre interwebz) .. so g40 (small block polo engines) rair... but 2.0 counterflow common... find it odd that they would share that vc...
