looking for an AAZ exhaust manifold and other options
« on: May 14, 2013, 11:18:30 pm »
Hi All,

I've been having a very hard time finding an exhaust manifold for an install of an AAZ in a vanagon. The one that I have positions the turbo (K03) below the intake manifold (I think it's a TDI manifold . . . ).

Any suggestions? Are there any alternatives to the AAZ manifold that would work?

Yeah, you have a TDI manifold. There's two different styles of AAZ manis: 4-bolt with a trapezoid shaped port, and 3-bolt with round hole. What does your turbo inlet have?

It's a three bolt, round hole port. I'd be happy to take some pictures, if there's any reason to do so.

Does your turbo accept 3 bolts or does it have a stud and holes for 2 bolts where it mounts to the manifold?

The turbo has one stud and two holes for bolts.

You have a TDI turbo then. I'd imagine it can be made to work but you should check that out first.

Oh - I see. Would it make sense to get an AAZ manifold and then remove the stud? Should I consider getting an 1.6td turbo and manifold? Are there any other manifolds that might work?

EDIT: I just realized that I had reversed things above.

Unfortunately, I just, finally, got my hands on a flange for this K03 turbo (one of Prothe's downpipe's)

Thanks for the help

Also, what significant differences are there between the two turbos?
