unless timing is perfect, and your engine is in PERFECT shape, a gasser starter WILL struggle to start a cold diesel..

the gasser starter is .7hp

the diesel starter is 2.5hp

theres a BIG difference..

ive never had good luck using a gasser starter on a diesel engine..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

and when adding grounds, add one that bolts to the trans, near the starter, or bolt it directly to the starter body.. dont give the ground any longer path than absolutely necessary..

valve cover studs are a bad place to secure wires.. there is a cork gasket insulating the valve cover to a point..

if you need new battery cables, then go buy an amplifier install kit, get it with 4, or better yet, 2ga wire..

make your new cables out of that, and be done..

a bad cable can make a starter seem dead..

I would have had 2/0 but they didn't have enough. I just bought the wire and made the cables myself, so I think I had around 30-40 USD in it. This was 2006, so it may have went up a bit since then.

Also, for a non moving car I have probably 7,500.00 in the MK2 and various parts right now. So what started off as a 600.00 car ended up bad.
