Hi, Can a Garrett TB036 Volvo turbo be used to make a T3/T4 turbo? I have a couple of old TO4 turbos for the compressor side.

Yeah it's a .48 exhaust housing but they have kind of a weird flqnge

OK thanks, I bought one cheap but its not here yet. Is the .48 housing to small on a 1.6 with ported head in a pulling tractor? I am more worried about mid/top end power so I don't want to choke it off.

Yeah .48 should be just about what ud want atleast out of the T3 family they're supposed to be good for about 300hp on a gasser. The compressor is quite good too actually. I don't think if build a hybrid if I were u I'd just try that turbo straight it's good for 30 psi and flows about 270hp for a gas engine do not quite as much on a diesel but still very good. Or go for what alcaif suggests, which is probably one of the best turbos for a performance vw diesel, get a holset he221w. Anti surge housing and billet compressor wheel 360 degree thrust bearing and a compressor map that flows to 350hp for a gasser and also to 45 psi.

Thanks for the help. Is a HE221W a hard turbo to find used? I assume the TBO3 would be better than the K26-6 I have now?

thats hard to say. it looks like the k26 flows more but the volvo turbo seems to be more efficient in the range you'd probably need it to to be. it's one of those things you'd have to try to see which actually worked better.
he221w i see on ebay occassionally, alcaid recommended use alibaba to buy them new they're really cheap there since they come straight from the manufacture in china, u just have to be leary of knock offs.

I also found a place that makes a .63 turbine housing for that Holset H1C turbo I have, but it is close to $200. I have no idea if that would be worth a try also. I will just have to try different things like you said.
Will a stock NA 1.6 pump with main gov spring shimmed and fuel turned up just below rpm hanging make decent power?

i would think your h1c already has a compressor inducer larger than 2" i don't see the point of the .63 compressor? is h1c's too large stock? i don't think h1c would work well except in compound.

The H1C i have is smaller than 2" at face of the wheel. I think it is 46mmX83mm compressor. They make a .63 exhaust housing for the H1C. It has a huge housing on it now.

If that's the size of it that's an odd compressor but should be really good for high boost and about 300hp, but I'd buy an he221w before I spent the money on that housing

OK that makes sence. Any idea how much boost the Volvo turbo could make with a TO4B compressor on it?

which to4b? i googled to4b compressor map, none of them look like they will work very well.

Not sure, Would I be better off using the T3 as the small turbo and the K26 as the big turbo on a two turbo setup? I have no clue how to size the turbos for that. If I do should I leave the waste gate in the T3 in case I need to control the boost on a two turbo setup?
After thinking about it I guess a internal waste gate probably wouldn't work since the by-passed exhaust would go into the next turbo.

Are you under any sort of class regulations?? Not that it matters, people have run 195whp on the 9mm 1.6 pumps... RETARDED!

Our pumps have more than enough flow for these engines anyways lol
