Will a stock NA 1.6 pump with main gov spring shimmed and fuel turned up just below rpm hanging make decent power?
Are you under any sort of class regulations?? Not that it matters, people have run 195whp on the 9mm 1.6 pumps... RETARDED!
I can run two turbos with a 2" max compressor wheel measured at the face of the wheel. It have a air to water intercooler I am going to pump ice water through it. I can run up to a 2.4 liter diesel.
I will be running against 2.3 turbo Fords, One has two Honda 4 cylinder Goldwing engines on alcohol, one has two huge snowmobile engines. So I am going to have to push a 1.6 pretty hard to compete.

OK that makes sence. Any idea how much boost the Volvo turbo could make with a TO4B compressor on it?
which to4b? i googled to4b compressor map, none of them look like they will work very well.
why do you want a T4 compressor on a T3 turbine?

I thought the T3/T4 turbos were the hot setup?
Will the extra volume of the intercooler change anything as far as turbo sizing goes?

Wouldn't a T3/T4 move more air than a straight T3? Or will the bigger compressor just slow down the shaft speed and come out about the same?

i don't think a 1.6 could ever be competitive against bigger displacement engines like that. even a tdi would be a real challenge imo
can't say if t3/k26 would be a good combo tho, its something u'd have to try and see.

Deep down I am thinking the same thing. Probably get my butt handed to me.
It will be fun to try though,,,

theres actually a local guy around here that runs a k26/6 which is off a porsche 944 right? its on a 1.6td in a mk2 coupe with h beam rods and an intercooler. im hoping to go check this car out sometime soon, my friend said it runs really good hopefully i can let you know. the way for you to be competitive would definitely be compounds its the only way ur going to be able to move as much as them to make a similar amount of power, but ull need a really well sorted setup keeping drive pressures and such in check. andy2 could probably help you alot.
u figure a 2.3 ford could easily make what ever power is possible from a 50.8mm inlet which i would guess is close to 400hp, which is a number i doubt is possible with a 1.6 with out heavy heavy mods. maybe if you pulled a piston from each 1.6 so u'd have 2 1.2's making 2.4 liters then you could be competitive, and also weird at the same time haha.

why not start with a 4D55 mitsubishi, or a SD25 nissan diesel?
they are both under your 2.4L limit, both are turbo'd, and both are TOUGH..
the old saying comes into play here...
"there is no replacement for displacement"

My original plan was a 2.4 Volvo D24. But didn't have any luck finding one cheap enough and not a million miles away. Someone suggested a 2.2 mer benz also. Already has inline bosch pump.

why not a 2.4 benz? the 2.2 is a MUCH older engine, found in the old 70s 220D's
the 240D's all had OM616 2.4L 4 bangers..
non turbo, but one can be added EASILY..
inline pump, yes, and they take the same STYLE of injectors that we run..
cant believe i didnt think about that the first time i posted..
the VW D24 would be the best bet tho, because of the torque native to the inline 6..

I will try the 1.6 before I change engines. I got the Volvo turbo, in good shape except turbine housing is cracked all over the place.

I have my 1.6 short block together. Nothing fancy or high buck for now.
just a hone job, new rings, and bearings. Pistons a little loose but don't think it will be a problem in a pulling tractor. Two are .003" and two are .004" for clearance. I would rather be a little loose then to tight and score a piston.

Make sure it is plenty warm when you pull, should be OK
