Now I remember why we went custom with our mk1. 2.5" downpipe and exhuast, fully custom with mandrel bends, etc...$600. We got a killer deal. I'd look around for shops that could maybe make one custom and see what they'd charge.

I made my own 2.5" for mk1, about $60 in the flange and pipe. This is my full exhaust system by the way!!!
This one had already been ran for about a year. I took the pic when I had it off to swap turbos.

I'm not trying to be an ass but I would consider anything over $300 for a custom VW exhaust to be "expensive" unless it was something exotic like stainless or all aluminum, or you used a really expensive muffler. The exhaust system on these is pretty simple and isn't very big, and mandrel bent tube isn't that much. Mufflers aren't that much either.

Speaking of mandrel bent tube, a local guy who does a lot of custom work swears by this company, real good price on mandrel bent pieces. Columbia River Bends.

HOLY CRAP.. $600 is ALOT for a single exhaust system..

ive had lots of dual pipe setups built for chevys, for alot less than 600..

Had a guy put a full stainless mandrel exhaust on a buddies mk3 for ~$500...

the local exhaust shop wants about $200 for a 2.5" straight exhaust..
92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

That downpipe linked alone is $400! We couldn't piece together stuff from Techtonics for less than we paid for the exhaust we got. And then we'd still have to install it if we ordered from Techtonics. And the linked one is 2.25". Our whole setup is 2.5" and we know it fits perfectly. We also have both a Borla muffler and a resonator on it as well. Can't recall what it was all made of though.

I guess I should have said we got a good deal when you compare to the Techtonics stuff. We did look into it, but in the end, it was far cheaper to get it custom.

Same here, custom will get you the same fo less, and more if you know the right people or can get the stuff yourself.  That's why I got my DP custom, and it's why I'll be taking my car to a local exhaust shop rather than buying off the internet.
I can unsderstand for some systems that has complicated bends and restricted space, but forsomething is simple as a VW, not even the new models merit it; the mk6 diesel even has more than enough room.
