mk1 strut housing nut stuck

Is there some sort of trick to unsticking a rusted strut insert nut?

If you are replacing the strut anyway, get it cherry red hit it with some penetrating and get the wrench on it. Works for me.

On a 1992 cabriolet there are only 4 little indents  for a punch to loosen the nut,

That's not going to work,  those grooves are actually for a special tool that u use to undo the nut but eff the special tool use a pipe wrench it will *** it up some but life goes on

You needed it, time is money.  Either way you spend it.  Now you can do all sorts of damage to home and car.  Great for tile work.  Removal anyway.
