Coated/chromed injector lines ?

I know someone on here has done it, but I can't remember who. I understand it's a tricky business as the nuts remain on the line and cannot be bound up in any way. Can anyone give me some suggestions?

Get junk delivery valves and put them on the ends before chroming.

3m makes a powdercoating masking tape. If you went to a chrome powdercoat you could get it pretty well handled. You might have to coat the nut first then tape the inside of it and the end of the line and then coat the line. It would be doable that way. You might be able to send them to a plater and have it zinc coated and the zinc wouldn't hold onto the nut as bad as other platings. IIRC the factory had them cadnium or zinc yellow plated.

I don't know the exact thickness, but at work both the zinc and gold chromate (electrical and mechanical plating methods) is x.x microns thick (whatever is required). Good enough for corrosion protection but no "welding" presay.

Yeah that is what I am talking. The zinc and zinc yellow dichromate like what is on bolts is the same. The yellow is just a dye. I know when we do bolts they have to do something to them, maybe anneal them, maybe it is a second heat treat. Whatever it is the treatment has to do with the integrity of the bolt as the zinc plating process weakens it initially.

saw me lotsa purty krome injector lines on youtube today..

guarantee you they never commercially made a set of chrome lines for a 6.5 GM idi, yet i saw some today

How about polished stainless steel lines?  With a really good polish job, it can be hard to tell the difference.

I would contact this company. They make steel and stainless lines and do custom work for the cummins guys. I am sure if they had a set of lines to work off of then that could be replicated in ss.

Nice quality custom stainless lines here - you wouldnt have to remove much material to polish them up. Same process for chrome and stainless - polish = removing material. Will cause the hex to not have a snug fit with a wrench, etc.

I have also been able to get zinc plated hardware to a near chrome shine .. more like an excellent aluminum shine. But that was with walnut shells and lots of tumbling.
