what other motors have same bolt pattern as 1.6NA
« on: February 18, 2006, 01:54:43 pm »
Just wondering which motors share the same transaxle bolt pattern as the 1.6NA.  I would like to swap a 1.6 into a newer body without swapping transaxle too.  However if i need to swap trans. with it i will but will i need to get custom drive axles and make motor mounts?  Specifically a 1981 rabbit or 1985 Golf motor and trans. if needed into 1991 Jetta with a 4cyl, 1996 Passat with the vr6(bad head) or a 1997 Jetta with the 2.0.  All of the donor bodies have manual trans now but like i said, i would swap the trans at the same time if needed.  I realize these are "slightly" heavier bodies by about 500lbs/200kgs but will make a few mods to compensate  ie IP, header, and cam timing,  Thanks.  Tad

I know that the guy that did the ALH Rabbit used his stock tranny. Dunno if he used a custom adaptor, though, but I don't think so.
1986 Volkswagen Golf | 1.6L NA diesel | 5spd manual | Deep Cosmic Blue (LE5C) | aack, it's a parts car, now, too!

All VW 4 cylinder water cooled engines will bolt up to all VW 4 cylinder transmissions, provided the clutch/flywheel that matches the transmission is used.

All 5 and 6 cylinder engines will bolt to all 5 and 6cyl transmissions as well, but you cannot bolt a 4cyl engine to a 5/6cyl tranny or vice-versa.
