I can't believe I am having to ask this :oops: , but what is the secret to getting the #@&*!!! oil pan of my 1.9?? I acquired a 1.9 and am trying to pull it apart to check condition and do the TDI crank mod. I removed all the bolts on the pan and can only get it to seperate from the block by about 1/2". Something inside seems stuck to the crank or something?

? I have pried enough to possibly bend the pan and it isn't close to budging. It will slide around and come up slightly (engine is on the stand), but that is it.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.
Did you remove the 1mm bolts and the flywheel/clutch protector?
Thanks X@V. Yes, I did that. I found my problem. Boy do I feel STUPID. The problem was not knowing that the oil baffle was an integral part of the pan gasket. I had never seen anything like that before. The gasket was SERIOUSLY STUCK to the pan, so when I tried to pry the pan, off, the oil pickup would hit the baffle/pan gasket and wouldn't budge. When I finally pried the gasket off of the pan it came off fine.
Anyway, I am finding this engine more than a little different than the Japanese and yankee engines I have worked on. The torx and alan bolts are better than the phillips screw heads on some of the Japanese stuff, but I nedd to augment my tool collection a little bit. Thankfully my wife wants the engine OUT of the garage, so tool shopping it is
Very common.The rubber gasket tends to stick to the block,and hooks on the oil pickup,making it seem like something is holding it on.
