Alternator not charging, and no battery light.
« on: July 03, 2012, 02:19:50 pm »
The car is a 82 Rabbit Diesel, the alternator is good, was tested, the battery light on the dash doesn't come on, even when the key is on, only the oil light.
I replaced the dash, but same thing, no light, and no charge.
Any suggestion?

Thanks.

the only time the light doesnt come on (from my experiences) is because the exciter wire is un-hooked from the alt, or if the light is burnt out..

have you confirmed with a volt meter that there is no charge coming from the alt?

Yes I did, also the alt was tested at two different locations, and passed.
I don't think is the light, because I replaced the dash, with a spare.
Probably is what you said, the wire is un-hooked somewhere.
I did a continuity test from the rubber plug that goes to the alt, to the plug in the dash, the only one that failed was the blue wire.
Can I bypass the blue wire?
If so, what I have to do?

Thanks

that blue wire is what operates the light. if the blue doesnt work, the light doesnt work..
