Sorry to disappoint anybody, but no change in attitude here. There is just a noticeable lack of silly BS, ego stroking, and chest beating around here of late. This forum has the potential to be a great one when some of the self styled experts are a little less wedded to their positions. There are bone fide experts here. Sadly, there seem to be a number of people who are legends in their own minds. It is not always apparent which is which.

Numbers tell all. They are easy to generate. The Butt-o-Meter lies, especially if you give it a chance. (I. E. Wishful thinking)

A couple of real numbers like calculated MPG over a tank or two, 0-60 times, difference in speed at the end of particular stretch of road, before and after a change, G-Tech numbers (+/-) all means more that a box car load of "impressions".

It seems that one thing this forum lacks is IP timing curve data. At least one guy here has been using a Tach and Tune to do some testing. (I'm sure Giles does something similar, as well) It would be very helpful if we could try collecting that kind of data somewhere. That way each of us is not trying to re-invent the wheel every time. Every set up will be at least a little different, but patterns will emerge that could be very useful.

Toby,  What do you have in mind for IP timing curves?

Number of Seconds to go some set distance compared to MM of advance?  MPGs per MM advance?  It does seem that in general we are all trying to get at something with our settings.  I have been writing my changes down in my maintenance log book since I now actually have a dial gauge.  Before that I was winging it like most others here.  Just setting the pump by the marks and pins and tweaking the pump position on idle for best smoothness.  Doing that got me to 78 MM.  Not real accurate now is it?

So maybe fire up an new thread on this topic and see what comes of it.

Mark had an interesting contribution for IP pressure and RPM that I found very useful.

What it might take however is that someone would have to have the much coveted timing light and dial gauge combo to really make it work.

Later DAS

You would have to eliminate a lot of variables though, traffic conditions, ambient temperature, elevations, pressure, condition of parts like filters, it goes on...

Not saying it couldn't be done but my car has a noticeable difference depending on the outside temperature alone.
