Missing Main Bearing Cap-any remedy?
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:03:23 am »
Have a 1.6 block w/crank and pistons but discovered that I somehow am missing the middle cap on the main bearing.  I've read about the line-boring and matching of caps so am I SOL or can a different cap be used?  What options do I have?  thanks

Find another cap and get it line bored. No other option.

Block needs to be bare and taken to a machine shop. Not super expensive, just lots of time and labour in the prep.

We'd get $250 at our shop to line hone it. More if theres major complications.

certainly an expensive lesson then for misplacing cap-block was only worth about $100-now minus $150 in value.  :(

I think that cap has the thrust brg too which you should consider.  you may have to get the flats milled to match and do a custom fit on the thrust brgs.  I'm not sure.
