ive seen one of these engines/done some reading about them.. these are made in china, correct?
the one i saw, was the 4.5hp model, and it broke the crank.. the next one also did..
They are Chinese Yanmar clones. There seems to be a number of different companies producing them. Both the motors I've had have been "Launtop" brand and have been very good.

Yes, they are made in china, but the DEK one "seems" better than others, as readed on different forums and based
on my own experience. I sold 40 of these engines, without a complain, and I tested a 4.5hp, like the one you said
it broke the crank, running WOT for long period with and w/o load and still run like a champ.
my snowblower has a 7.5hp with a cummins injector, modded fuel pump and a turbocharger..
$hit happen sometime, it's an engine and it brakes..

good to know that it was more than likely an isolated incident.
