I was thinking more along the lines of No PRECUPS, but yeah VNT.
Also the car started out an auto, converted to manual, 10,000miles ago timing belt and water pump and alt. New clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. Also new bosch fuel pump and injectors. Rust free Alabama car.
More than I wanted to spend, but I think and hope it will be better than the last 6,000.00 vw I killed last week.

what pump does it have? the 11mm unit still, or a 10mm manual pump?

I will see if the intake was cleaned. Other than that and the turbo I don't see anything that is too alarming. I should be able to clean an intake. I will check out what pump it has. I think I will miss the power of my 1.6, so whenever I can get it on the road again I may mess with this one. I have learned to never mess with 2 cars at once unless you have 14 more for backup.

yes, the timing belt was done approx 30,000 miles ago. I am getting all receipts. Just talked to him and I will be in Alabama 11:00am tomorrow, but he was asking if I wanted him to take out the injectors and put brand new stock ones in. He has some bigger nozzle in it, I told him to leave them in as I would like power. He said, ok, but is sending along the brand new stock injectors
I really hope this all works out.

Lucas, you will not miss the MF 1.6 after driving the ALH 1.9.. trust me. Its already got bigger injectors? A tune and your set for some good power. If you need tips, talk to Catlin about the ALH.
The VNT will get you, full boost at 1900 rpms man.. Its not anywhere near the same engine as the 1.6.. your 1.6 maybe had more torque.. but this one makes it so much lower it wont matter

if its got an 11MM pump I suggest a EGT Gauge and Boost Gauge, the VNT Actuators and N75 Valves have a habit of going bad on ALHs, and make sure you check and clean the intake. also get under the car with a Vacuum gun and hook it to the actuator to make sure it holds its vacuum and that the actuator moves smoothly(sticky Vanes causing overboost are a known issue).
if its a 10MM pump go Bosch 216s from Giles and a Malone stage 2 and you will LOVE THAT CAR, My TDI was a blast to drive and I miss the raw torque and pull it had, it would pull on Honda SIs and sheard tires.
But ALHs are a great motor(best TDI ever made IMO) and the MK4 is a great platform since there is very rare any rust issues, my 99 still looks great.

10mm pump .205 injectors. He messed up and said it was a 5sp when ordering...it is but it had the auto. It pulls better than the 1.6 on bottom, but mid to top the 1.6 was better. I miss the 1.6, if my 1.6 had a vnt I think it would kill this ALH. But my old car didn't have a/c and is blown up. The intake looked ok.
The ALH is nice, but my 1.6 had tons of pull once it spooled and I think there was more to get. I was scared of EGT so I had it turned down. Giles really does one heck of a job. I just drove this car 700miles one way and have no issues. I haven't got to go through all the reciepts, but it has all the parts to rebuild the engine in the trunk. New rod, main, rings, oil pump, and gasket set, minus the front and rear main. He gave me a ton of parts, so I should be good to go.
I am not going to do much with it. I want a reliable car not nessesarily the fastest car I can get. I may even put the brand new stock set of injectors back in it. My goal is to get my 1.6 back on the road and have 2 cars that get 45mpg. If I want to play I will build a 1.9mTDI for the 86 jetta, but I really feel I have to see what the 1.6 can do before doing that. Might sell the 1.6 engine after that test to provide the funds to build the M TDI...I have a ton on my mind.

trust me on 216s and a Malone stage 2, youll be averaging 50MPG all the time, my normal tank was 600 to 700MILES per tank.
get an EGT and a boost gauge and keep your eye on things and it will pull

YES! a VNT on a 1.6 is AMAZING! my car rips pretty good, and boosts by 2 grand..
