im shaft pulley how u guys remove that with minimal tools?
« on: September 17, 2011, 09:55:03 am »
so i don't have a pulley puller... shame on me.  and i'm having trouble getting the intermediate shaft pulley off, i've been trying to pry it from the holes on the inside, because i don't want to pry on the edge and bend or break off the lip on the im pulley.  any suggestions?  i feel dumb here, i know its not a press fit or anything, but this bugger is really on there

ive never needed anything more than my hand to remove them. maybe a little pry at the edge from a screw driver..

if you are CAREFUL.. you can get something in there, and pry from the bottom edge, and not touch the lip..

what i been trying here now is i am prying from an inside hole, i put the bolt back in loosely, and i am tapping on the bolt trying to free the pulley, what the heck... i probably should have driven this car till it was hot before i started working.  i'll see if i can get a screw driver under in  a way won't effect the edge.

if you got the car hot, it would be worse.. the IM shaft would be hotter (more expanded) than the aluminum..

it SHOULD wiggle right off the shaft.. its probably corroded on there i imagine..

hit it with PB blaster right at the shaft.. both sides if you can.

If you have a torch, even a little propane one you could blast the pulley. It'll out-expand the shaft and probably slip right off. Might need a new seal though.

fwiw mine have always slid right off. ;D
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.
