passat 1.9 and 02a box

I have a chance to get a cheap engine and 02a gearbox out of a 93 passat (still transverse/across fwd setup with a 1.9 idi). I have a couple questions.
1. Will I be able to use the trans in a golf or jetta setup? (do the mounts need changing?)
2. I'd be wanting the 1.9 for a TDI setup. Can it be changed to a mTDI without any issues?
I think I can search for the answer to #2, but I don't know the answer to #1...
Thanks,

I'm going to assume the golf/jetta you're referring to has an 020 gearbox (cable clutch/mech linkage shifter). This trans came in every golf/jetta from 85-98 that DIDN'T have a VR6. Also assuming the engine/trans comes with clutch.
If that's correct, off the top of my head, you'll need
-Shifter with box and cables
-Pedal box
-Master Cylinder and brake fluid reservoir
-Possibly line from the M/C to the slave cylinder if that's not included?
-Possibly new CV's, 02A boxes all had 100mm flanges
Probably more I'm missing, but that'll give you an idea to start from

will fit 85-99.5 almost bolt in.. engine mount different 85-93.. will have to change that...
shifter, starter, bolts.. clutch stuff.. pedals.. so on.. need it all.. so get it all..
if your putting it into a later 93-99 mk3 shell the pedals will be different though.. passat different then mk3.. but almost same as mk2..
so my question is what year...
as far as tdi-m... rumor is head/piston swap and tdi-m pump will turn it into a tdi pretty easy.. aka block is same.. crank/rods.. just the differance is pistons/head..
reality to me though.. if running aaz.. then just super pump it and call it a day..

All is with the wrecked passat for the tranny except I think the pedal box will need to be from a golf/jetta. My car is a MK3 with 100mm cv's already. Slave, line and all clutch related parts should be there except the pedal box will be needed.
As for the engine it looks like a aaz will work as a tdi with a tdi head, possibly new rods or ahu or ahl rods, pistons, tdi injectors and mtdi pump.

Should be a very straight forward swap then!
Rods shouldn't need to be changed, but other than that, I think you've got the right idea for the IDI to TDI swap
Out of curiosity, where do you live?

Is this a mk3 that already has a diesel or is it a VR6?
Are you sure you have a slave? The only mk3's I have seen with the hydro clutch are tdis and vr6s. And you'll need a cable shifter. If you want to keep it real simple just leave the 020 trans in and bolt up the AAZ. Keep in mind that there are wiring differences between an AAZ installed in a B3 and a MK3 (Not big or anything). Also, if the mk3 was gas, you'll need to replace the cluster (or tach portion if possible, it is on a B3).
As for the tdi upgrade, why not just get a tdi engine, convert to m-tdi or install ecu/harness.

cause a head/pistons costs less then a tdi..
you will need a mk3 pedal set for the hydrolic master.. well clutch pedal at least.. also the clutch master is different from passat to mk3..

While the subject is up I have a few questions,
Does anyone know if the mk3 pedal cluster will work with an mk4 tranny?
Will the mk3 cable shift box fit the same as the mechanical shift box?
Are the Mk4 cable shift boxes different then the mk3 cable shift boxes?
And last but not least,
Will the vehicel speed sensor from the 02A work the same as the 020 tranny?

RadoTD I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. We get a few cars at the wreckers with 1.6 na but not too many 1.9TD. This is the first one I've seen. The only thing is you have to go and pull it yourself. I could get this 1.9, tranny with all the goodies except the pedal box for about $300 CAD.
My MK3 was a gas car that I have swapped over to a 1.6TD. I was mainly looking at the wrecked car for the 02a and all the conversion pieces as I can likely get it for cheap. An then got thinking about the 1.9. It's complete with the turbo, the only things gone are the injector pump and lines. For $185 for the remainder of the 1.9 is pretty cheap.
I haven't decided about the 1.9 yet, but I think I'm going to get the tranny and everything that goes with it.
as for MK3 to Mk4 cluster, I think I saw something or vortex about swapping a 6 speed into a Mk3. I'm not too sure about the rest.

One question I had - with an aluminum flywheel and 02a style clutch, with the rotating mass be heavier than an 020 clutch?
