After a head gasket job, should I pull the vacuum pump so I can manually spin the oil pump to get oil circulated through the engine before starting it? I undid the 13 mm bolt and clamp but the vacumm pump seems to be stuck in there pretty good due to corrosion. Should I put a slide hammer on it and tap it out?

With just a head gasket done, there should be no issue about oil . To be sure pour a bunch all over the cam and lifters. It's not your breaking in a rebuilt engine.. More important is to make sure you bleed all the air out of the cooling system once it's running

^ good advice.
I still like seeing the oil up top. You never know when brain fade sets in and you put the top or OBEN side down and no oil comes up. I haven't done it yet, but I am sure I will sometime.
The vac pump should come out if you have that clamp off and twist it with a pipe wrench. Be prepared to put a new oring in it if it was real bad.

If it is that rusted in there CLEAN IT very well before removing it or you will get a bunch of junk in your engine. Lightly tapping it with a hammer side to side will get it out of there as well.

Personally I would not worry about it unless it took you over 2 months to do the headgasket job, but even then...

Yeah I wire brushed it then sprayed it with Brake clean then penetrating oil soaking overnight.

Another reason I want to remove it is to paint it with POR15 along with the rusty injector hardlines.

I wouldn't worry about oil pressure that much due to you'll be cranking it trying to frime the injectors. It'll get oil there before fuel.

Not that it would hurt to do so, feel free to do it.

I only worry about it when I do rebuilds, but I use enough assembly lube to kill a small horse.

grab that vacuum pump like it owes you money, and start twisting and tugging. it will come out..

like was stated, clean around it before you pull it.

I took a slide hammer, hooked the lip of the top plate and it moved. I didn't pull it out all the way (just 1/8 inch) so I can clean it up more then put it back till I'm ready to paint it.
