I'm looking for suggestions for a replacement fuel filter for my 92 eco-diesel.
I'd like to get away from the stock filter and its "heater" valve - to replace it with a less expensive spin on type filter.
I know I can bypass the "heater" thermostat in the return line with a piece of tubing and switch to the conventional filter - but the cost isnt a whole lot cheaper compared to a spin on filter.
I'm hoping to find something in the 5 micro or finer, that might fit where the original filter resides.
I've seen earlier rabbits had a spin on, I know remote filter adapters are available from numerous vendors, and I know fram makes a filter housing that takes a cartridge type filter (tho messy to change)
Anyone have any suggestions on this - I'd like to hear what you may have done.
thanks!
Check out Baldwin filter head BF1311 and BF948 8 micron spin on fuel filter (around $6 ea at Fleetpride).

The only thing with the BF1311 filter head is that it has an 2 female ORB ports and you have to find adapters to go to 5/16 fuel lines. A good hydraulic shop should have them.
I like the stanadyne filters. They have a pile of extra add-ons like a heater, clear water bowl, lift pump, electric water sensor etc.
