Torque Wrenches?
«

I have used torque wrenches forever but a little concerned here. Are torque wrenches accurate when turned upside down? I am going to pull my pistons with the motor still in to check for piston ring breakage and was a little concerned with using my Husky torque wrench upside down to torque my ARP connecting rod bolts! I rebuilt this motor with using the torque wrench right side up!

I do know that I drive torque, while listening to my friends prattle on about horsepower.

I'd be suspicious of a Husky one anyway...but the Snap On guy put my Harbor Freight special on his calibrator, and it works just as good as his , so who knows.

Some shops require calibration every 6 months. But I think 2 years is a good idea. I'm overdue to have mine calibrated (Sears clickers). It's amazing how accurate those harbor freight ones are at like $10-20.

My HF is almost brand new, as it's predecessor launched bits of the head off into the woods one day.
Mostly I use my SK because it feels so much sweeter.

Where I work they test them every year. Never had a problem with calibration on a 1/2 inch one of any brand, but the 3/4 inch ones are a different story..... Don't imagine anyone needs the big one for anything they're discussing on this board!:D

We calibrate ours every 3 months. One thing to keep in mind with click types is to back it off to the bottom setting (but not below) so that you don't get a set on the spring. That's our most common cause of failing calibration, next is dropping them. They should also not be used to loosen hardware.
