Since I have acquired the Eco I too have been scouring the local breaker yards for parts and whatnot. In that search I found a place in Dade City Florida, (about 45 minutes north of Tampa) called SunRay Bugs. An old man (think he said he is 82) runs the place. He fixes dubs, mostly all old school, and has five acres of almost every dub you can think of, and for some reason a bevy of Saturns as well. Sitting around.

The reason I am posting this is because in my trips to get some part off of him, he has let me know that he plans on having most of the MK1's and Mk2's sent to the crusher. He gets offers everyday from recyclers, and he is wanting to hang up his hat, hang on to the air cooled stuff, and just worry about that.

I told him that there is a market for what he has and that he needed to hang on to those cars because with a little information passing over the "innernets" he could get a lot more than the 17 cents a pound they are gonna pay him to take those cars to the crusher.

Of course him being that old he has got a decent grip on email and what not, but utilizing the web and all the niche sites to get the word out that there are still good parts avail for us bitten by the Mk1/2 "bug". So he asked me if I could help him with that. I told him that I could get the word out for him, take a bunch of pictures of what he has, and put up his contact info.

So thats what I am gonna do. Hope this helps whoever is working on whatever, find that part you might need. He also has a *** ton of oem odds and ends like seals, gaskets, trim rings, new in the box inside his little office area (I think mostly for aircooled though.)

This is the only reason I post this.  I am not affiliated, related, (nor have I mated) with this guy. Just know that we are all hunting from some bit or piece, and there is a good chance this old guy has it. On to the pics...

These were sittin in his shop. They are for air cooled cars, beetles I think. He said they were called Rivieras. I googled them and have seen them on 914's 15x5.5 4x130 I have close up shots of each wheel and the sticker from the manufacturer as well. If ya wanna see em PM me. They are slightly used and said he would take 85 a wheel.

Tons of these laying around..

Jettas

Alot of the cars still have there motors in them, and mostly complete.

Beetles

Samba's, Bus's, (or whatever they are called)

Lots of OEM wheels in good shape, snowflakes, tarantulas, steelies...

For the diesel Mk1 crowd I found this...

There are a ton of other cars there. Rabbits, cabbys, fox's, a few quantums, golfs, thinks, fastbacks, type 411 or 412 (or both?)

I almost cry when I see so many old dubs rusting away......I cry worse when they crush 'em :'(

Thanks for lettin' us know, if I was close enough I'd be all over the place.
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

If there is something you need, I am willing to help a dubber out as long as it isnt too crazy. Send me a pic of what you need and what to get it off of, and I will go pull it, and arrange for shipping. I also got the impression that he will even abrasive blast and paint the part for a little more $, or send it as is. Im not wanting this to be a part time job or anything, but figure I can help some dubbers out who live in Rust Prone parts of the world. I posted this over on Vortex, but I will not be extending that invitation to that crowd. They can call him.

I tried using their 'part request form' but it seems to be down at the moment.

Have you seen any 1.6TDs around there? I need a turbo and manifold, if they have them.

No, unfortunately. I only seen two diesel Mk2's in the whole place and both NA's. From what I understand though, some of the gasser manifolds bolt on? I am sure I have read some threads around here about it.

I really could use some clean, non-busted Quantum front end parts. They'd have to be for an early one (1982-1985). I can send pics of what I need.

All will bolt to the head but some will interfere with the exhaust manifold or turbo.

I would take just about any small bumper one screw turn signal lenses for MK2.
I guess I have a wish list of stuff that I would someday like if the price were low enough...
1. rust free jetta shell MK2
2. 4 doors from a jetta MK2 4 door car with the big windows rust free
3. a good trunk seal for MK2 jetta
4. a junk or good diesel cyl. head for mocking up parts on spare engines---just has to be real cheap
5. 02A/02J trans cheap

I guess that is what I wish he could hold onto untill I could afford. I only really need the trunk seal, the rest really is a wish list. AND there is probably more as well that I can't think of. Let me know if you see a good trunk seal and small bumper turns that look like this..

I have just come back from there. He will ship parts. He understands people are going to email him about part requests at [email protected]. He has plenty of Mk2 Shells, that are rust free, small bumper, big bumper.

I learned today he has a "office manager" now, some retired bank guy that loves dubs is now working there to help the old man out with the office stuff so he will be keeping a eye on the email. Nice guy, his name is Paul, and he answers the phones.

Only problem is they aren't too knowledgeable on the Mk 1/2's. They also didnt realize that there was such a following for these cars. The peeps over at Vortex hit him with several different "orders" today. So send them pics, mk1 or 2 golf/jetta, and anything else that might assist them in your request , and when they think they got the right part, they will confirm with a returned pic of said part.

I took a bunch more pictures of the cars there. Lotsa Diesel Rabbits there! Ill post later.

Got my ASF today! Yay! Only 112k on the odo! Gear oil was to the top and glitter free!

Which reminds me, I picked that ASF outta three that I looked at. I also saw an ACN and a few others. has an AUG on the shelf.
