Operating oil pressure
« on: May 05, 2011, 11:32:30 pm »
I'm nearing completion of my AAZ rebuild and am monitoring my oil pressure.  Seems like I'm getting around 50psi at startup, dropping gradually to around 40psi after a couple minutes.  What's normal operating pressure for these engines?  I've read anywhere from 15-80 psi depending on temperature and oil type.  I'm using 15W40 Lubromoly at the moment.
Thanks.

cold startup I see it anywhere from 80-100psi, once oil is warmed up to operating temp it should sit around 22-30psi at idle.  Cruising around you're looking around 40-60psi.

i am getting 8-10 psi  (0.5-0.7 bar) at idle when fully warmed up. but i do not have oil cooler and now im using quite cheap 15w40 mineral oil.    i think that synthetic or semi-sinthetic oil should give me more pressure.    i have that readings at oil filter flange.   i get 60-70 psi at cold startup.

I picked up an autometer electric pressure gauge on ebay last year and it seems to be working fine.  I trust it more than the army of blinking lights in my cluster  ;D
