need some franken parts and advice
« on: April 15, 2011, 08:44:48 pm »
I need a part number and place to order a good 1 notch head gasket.  I would also like to know what head studs to order and where as I dont want to use the stock bolts.  I am building a 1.6 HYD with a 1.9 HYD head on it. I am also adding a t3 turbo.  The pump is stock, just rebuilt with new injectors.  I was also wondering what the timing should be, I ve read as much as 1.25mm for extra advance.  Suggestions?  Thanks
Ted

I used a 2 notch head gasket. I played with timing for a long time until I settled on 1.00

With a aaz k14 an intercooler running 17lbs of boost, gov mod and pump tuning, I can do a 0-60 run in 9.5s and not be above 875f egts. Cruising at 60-65mph is 500-600 on flat, no higher than 750f on the steepest highway grade going 60mph. Hard to get it above 950f period. Now I am worried about slipping the clutch, it has a 16v clutch, but rolling in 2nd if I lay into it it will break the tires free. It pulls so hard in 4th that it hurts my neck if I do it a few times.

intercooling is what turned my motor from pretty good, to holy crap.

Lucky day if you act fast.
Only ONE left in stock - www.rockauto.com has them on closeout sale. One Notch - Beck/Arnley

$3.06    :o

If that link doesn't work - go to their website and use 85 jetta TboDzl as car input criteria. I was roaming through there the other night and spotted this deal.

Good Luck

I would start off timing it at the normal 1.00mm. From here all you can really do is time it by ear/performance. It will need to be advanced until it stops missing at idle and the smoke clears up but stop before the clattering gets worse. It's a trial and error thing when you are building a hybrid engine.

BTW - the gasket i linked is the fiber style 1.6 (stock).

Happened to wonder if you were actually wanting a 1.9 Multi Layer Steel head gasket.

The fiber with studs - supposed to be good to about 20-25 psi boost.

The MLS goes up to higher psi boost.
But requires very strait deck and head tolerances.
