Mech head on Hydro block??

So i have a little issue. Cant seem to find a hydro block anywhere around me. I have a couple mech heads laying around, but am not sure if i can make it work?

I would think that if physically hydro heads have been fit to mech blocks with doing nothing else than blocking the extra oil drain in the head... Then you have no oil drain there should be able to put a mech head on a hydro block..

you would be plugging up ports in the block, instead of the head..

And the nice thing about this drain plug is that it would prevent rain water / dirt from getting into the pan, rather than the head plug of keeping oil in the engine.

well the thing is, i had a mech head on the block at one point, although was sketched out about the port. so i pulled the head off and it seemed that all of the ports lined up and all the water jackets lined up. didnt know if i missed anything or not. wasnt sure if someone had done it before or not.

you would be plugging up ports in the block, instead of the head..

when using a mechanical head on hydro block you have to block both, because a water jacket over laps the extra drain hole, regardless of what head gasket you use they both will need plugged, the head most of all

We at the shop just had an '80 pickup come in for a post purchase inspection. It failed in every way just for the fact that the PO had a mech. head on a hydro block. The coolant was pressureized instantly, oil leaks all along the front of block, peddal assembly was broken, brakes were ok though.
I don't see how or why anyone would do that conversion. It just seems like if you see it on the internet, it can be done. True it can if you know what your doing.

saurkraut on here put a 1.9 head on a 1.5 block. that is the opposite of what you want. Someone else put a mech head on a hydro block, but I can't remember who it was. It has been done. Search the IDI section and you will find it eventually.

well i foud a head. of all places to find a head, i found one on a farm in pa on an amish farm. it was actually pretty awesome. i have never seen so many diesel parts in my life. they had about 50 heads, and not even lieing more injection pumps than i could imagine. brand new diesel pistons and injectors. lol

todays society, everyone wants everything handed to them, they don't want to work for anything, and at their jobs could care less about quality and craftsmanship, its all about putting in the hours.  americans worked hard to get where we are, but now its like everyone thinks its our divine right to have what we have.
