but i guess is what im wondering, is has anyone done this and successfully made it work?

dont know of anyone doing this, but i dont see why it couldnt be accomplished?

Did it, plugged the coolant passage in the head above the drain hole. Drove it for 11000 trouble free kms then parked it.

Its not that big of a deal.

a mech head with big valves? why not just opt for the AAZ head? then you dont have to worry about plugging off ports that arent needed. an aaz head would bolt straight on a hydro block..

89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

but they have the money to build a big valve head? and obtain a HX35? i dont get it..

if it were me, i would find an AAZ head. i bet you could get one for under 150 bucks straight from canada..

they are far superior to a 1.6 head. its the best head you can get for an idi VW.. in stock form atleast.

well the head work is pretty much free for me because my best friend owes me some favors and happens to build heads for a engine shop. All thatd id have to do is buy the vavles. it was a thought. I want to do the aaz head swap next summer, so the big vavle 1.6 head was ehhh just a thought. but i do have a bunch of mech heads laying around and no Hydro heads. that was the issue lol

Contact some people on the for sale section. Not free but I am sure there are people with parts that would come off them cheaper than you would think.

with one of those flappers that blocks off one of the scrolls at low boost he might be able to spool it up at a usable rpm, but i'm thinking it will surge like a mofo

i dont see how one of those flappers can even function properly.. basically, if you have the right manifold for a twin scroll turbo, half of your cylinders will have no flow when that valve is closed..

Dime a dozen in the junkyard

I need to get up to Canada then because I've never seen one in a junkyard around here and I'm a regular at the local you-pull-it-yourself yard and a big one near L.A. In fact I don't think I've ever seen a VW diesel in there that's newer than like '83.
