Guy did a nice job, good info about international too.
I know dodge used that engine in the '60's for a while in the D500 and D600, (optional, trucks labeled PD 500 or PD600). I have the driveline out of one in an "88 chev crew cab 3/4 ton. I don't have the turbo though, mine was an na and I've never felt the need to change it. Depending on what overdrive he has in that vehicle, the mileage could be amazing. My truck has a 3.21 dana 60 rear with an NP 5 speed that's direct in high gear, wieghs 6200 lbs empty and is capable of 29 mpg (imperial).

That's good to hear about the mileage. A friend of mine had one with a V 8 . it got such bad fuel mileage he sold it after 4 months.

most trannies have direct drive in 4th gear, and an over drive for 5th..

that kinda sucks you just got direct drive in 5th..

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

On this end of the island most of the jimmys are old and well worn and with these scrap prices you know the rest..  Perkins are rather pricey as well as the various Isuzu NPR power plants.. Cummins engines and adapters for that matter are cheap(er) and plentiful I suppose..

There's an old 70's Ford somewhere in this county with a 4 cyl. Perkins in it.  Met the older fellow at an auction one day.  The sounds was distinctly different than either a Navistar or Cummins.

Red one with a topper? Tom O'Neil. He lives about 5 miles from me. That's a 318 four banger. I have also seen a few more 354's, one not too far away (Rodney area) in a ford.
Joe verouken in St. Marys has done a few too.

i wonder why? lol..

prolly did it that way so he could control his truck when the engine breaks down..

chevy diesels are a B!TCH to drive when the engine dies.. had to double foot the brakes, and strong arm the steering..
