Dash idea
« on: February 19, 2011, 04:59:27 pm »
So I thinking about modding my dash. I want to cut out the ashtray and cubby and plate it over. The cut however will trim a chunk so it is verticle and I intend to put a toyota cup holder in. The toyota cup holder is toyota PN 55615-16010. It looks like it is from the mid to late 80's corolla.

Cup Holders?  Next you will want to route some of the hot water from the heater to make a tray hot to hold burgers and burritos.

Seriously, My cup holder is my hand.  When it is empty I put the cup between the passenger seat and the e brake hump.

Pics would be good.  How about some tray like thing like on an airplane?

92 Jetta GLI - Black, 1.6D w/ GT2056V turbo..
86 GTI - 4 Door, Med Twilight Gray, Tow Machine..
86 Audi Coupe GT - Tornado Red, All Stock.. WRECKED.
89 Toyota 4Runner - Dark Grey Metallic, LIFTED!

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

im with you on this one.. if you cant hold it in hand, or between the legs, or beside the e-brake, then you dont need to hold it..

my mk2 has a beer holder on each side. just put the can/bottle between the seat and the slide handle..

Most other things typically don't require a cup holder so I didn't bother to add them..

Has anyone noticed the number of "things" we need to drive these days.  Besides the cup holder/ brewskie bucket, we need a phone, a GPS, for those that smoke a pack and lighter, then add the wallet and maybe checkbook if she lets you have it.

Going to need a shopping basket up front not a cup holder.

Maybe that is why I stripped the rear seat out of the Rabbit.  And most people think it's because I need to pack three tool boxes.  Ha.  It's for the cooler man.

I set my coffee (full cup) between the ebrake and seat to run into a store and forgot, kinda makes a mess.........I did get about a half a mile before it fell though.

I too have wished for cup holders. Have you noticed that when opened, the glove box lid is a cup holder ::).
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

my cup holder in the burnt toast project.. :D

ive seen where a guy modded his bunny speaker grills and that usless area for speakers and build cup holders into them... thats a 81-84 westy dash... so maybe get a spare set of grills.. mod them.. the bottom of cup/can is held in place by the vent ducts..

I have thought of using a hole saw and the port holes in things like speaker cabs and computer desks with a bottom put in them on my MK2 dash. Haven't done it yet though.

CRSMP5  Love the Fila holder.  Can you explain the gauges?  This is your recent van project.  10 gauges?  Man it's not an airplane.  What are you monitoring?

I have thought about finding some of those old style hang on the door type holders.  Maybe some sort of glued on tab that would accept a holder on the dash.  Kind of like a rear view mirror does.

gauges simple...
speedo..

oil temp
water temp
100 amp running duel batts for camping..
tach

thats on right side of speedo..

left...

volt
clock as you cannot read radio in daylight
oil pressure
fuel
egt
boost

thats 11 by the way...

so amp/clock are options..

could use a 2 way switch for oil/water temps (so could have been 1).. but all my td's have both as i wanna know which each is doing.. stil need to add in a sensor in the waterpump so can switch between head and water pump temps... yes they can vary... at least on a idi td they do under long boost loads.. just lacked the sensor to do it when i built it.. my b3 wagon has both... my old 81 caddy that had a bae turbo on it had both..

being the tdi-m i wanted to monitor my egt and boost levels

wanna have some fun.. go ask a shoe store to sell you 1 shoe... :D  they looked at me like a squirrl was nibbling on my foot.. but for $5 and some odd cents they sold me 1... the $10k+ leg/foot yes its a real prostetic.. just adds for WTF was they thinking aspect..
