I am in the middle of swapping a mk2 diesel in to my mk1 that originally had the gasser. The throttle cables seem to be a different length?? The gasser one seems to be longer.. Wuhoh.
What can I do to remedy this?

k3vo! I made up a little bracket to make the slack in the cable be taken up.
Diesel T cable? What is this?
NEW QUESTION
did an mk1 ever come equipped with a T3 turbo'd TD engine?
Mk1 and Mk2 downpipes from the turbo itself must be different... but not by much sadly. There is like an inch to make it work.. crapp

pretty positive that mk1s did come with T3 turbos.. i have a mk1 T3 downpipe..
diesel T cable = diesel throttle cable..
gasser throttle cables had nuts to adjust them, diesels had a clip.
too bad you wernt closer, ive got a PILE of mk1 diesel t-cables.

this is the problem I ran into. It's not the length, but how the end attaches that is the problem. best to just get the diesel cable if you have it. the bottom cable is the gasser obviously, and I was putting a mk1 diesel into a mk2

Well I swapped from a 91 in to an 84 and the pump ends were identical. The problem was the cable being too long from the stop to the throttle lever..

doooooooooood, on the contrary. I have been using the gasser cable since Saturday, the stop just needed to be lengthened further back from the pump arm. No biggy, love to engineer stuff
The mk1 Jetta CIS equipped (not sure for mk1 carb'd vehicles), and mk2 Jetta digi equipped gassers have the same end as we require on our diesel pumps.

all my gasser cables have a ball end, crimped on, not the socket with the clip around it..
none of my gasser throttle cables are even close to the diesel cables.
im thinking someone put a diesel cable on your gasser, because the gasser throttle bodys have the ball connection, but its usually not used for the throttle cable, its usually for cruise control.

All my cars (an 81 diesel, two 84 gas 1.7, 90 gas 1.8, two 91 diesels, and a 94 2.0) have the top throttle cable in the quoted picture. I don't think somebody swapped out the cables on all 4 of the gasser cars i have in my driveway

hate to say it, but the bottom cable in that picture above was in a 89 pirelli jetta. this one. It was a 1.8 RD motor.

the bottom cable is definitely a gasser one.....

but hey; me and kevin can go on like this forever. We're proud oregonians

thats whaaack.
Seriously, all Gassers I have seen or done anything with have been the top cable.
Maybe its a Canada thing?
Ahh the RD, 9.1 CR and on CIS-E.. Could be why, however my two gas mk1's are CIS as well..
Did you swap out that RD for a Diesel?

Seriously, all Gassers I have seen or done anything with have been the top cable. How many have you seen other than those 4
Maybe its a Canada thing? lots of things are canada things eh...but not in this case

actually, the rd was a high compression motor. it was 10.5:1. Had a blast with it for about an hour and a half till it grenaded.
Did you swap out that RD for a Diesel?
maybe...
best thing that ever happened to that car

the bottom cable is a gasser cable, the top one is diesel.
both my 92 jettas (8v and 16v), 85 GTI, 80 Rabbit, 86 golf, 85 golf, and my buddies gassers all have the bottom cable.
and oh yea, RD was 10:1 comp. basically the same engine as what was in my 85 GTI. it has an HT.
the CIS-E on them is so awesome.. and they were the first engines that got VWs knock sensing ignition system.
105 hp factory..
Jeremy, you basically have WEIRD cars.. or canadians just got the superior throttle cable setup. cause if you are missing the little spring retaining clip for the gasser cable, you might as well plan on popping your hood every day to re-connect the throttle cable..
