New build, stutter at low speed/high gear
« on: January 08, 2011, 07:45:43 pm »
Got the 1.6TD all rebuilt, new Giles pump timed at 0.9mm, Giles rebuilt TD injectors, 0.20" overbore, blah blah 5 speed 020.

Overall running great, butt dyno says more power for sure. One small issue however is that if I'm trying to cruise/maintain slow speed and in a higher gear, I get this stuttering problem. Car kinda jerks even while I'm holding constant accelerator position. I can put the foot down and power through and then it is fine. I can replicate this all day every day if I get up to about 25 mph, throw it in 3rd, and from 2000-2500 RPM or so it does this. I can do it in other places too occasionally, but this is very repeatable. Otherwise, higher speed/RPM or lower speed/RPM I can cruise fine at light/medium/or heavy throttle.

Should I try adjusting the timing? Or some other adjustment to be made?

My Giles pump he said .95mm or .0374" so I would start there unless he told you otherwise.

He had told us to start at .9, see how we liked it. But not to go over .95. So we started at .9. Reset it to .95 last night and the car is much, much happier! The stutter is mostly gone...still need to adjust a smidge but its much less noticable. And the car has so much more pull and power. It was struggling to hit 7psi at .9 when you were really going in 4th gear. Now it hits 9psi no problem in most gears. Butt dyno says its good :)
