Glow plug sensor/coolant sensor

91 Jetta Diesel 1.6L NA
Is the sensor that feeds information to the glow plug relay the same part # as the one that sends the data to the instrument cluster for the gauge?
I can find a listing for gauge type, but not one for glow plug system. On my car, they are both black, 2 prong.
I ran into this issue 5 years ago or so but I can't remember what I found out.

On the Rabbits, the sensor was the same for either, but was single-terminal.
On Jettas, there are 4 sensor colors AFAIK:
White= AC cutout on NA cars up to 1992 (2 terminal)
Brown= AC cutout for ECODiesel cars (4 terminal)
Blue= Fuel injection for digifant cars (2 terminal)
Black= Temp sensor for gauge, and prolly glow unit. (2 terminal)
If in doubt, try VagCat (which may be having problems currently), or Wagenstad.com

Ok. I'll see what I can find there. I know they're both black on my car, but I do believe to verify I plugged the gauge wire into the gp sensor and it was all off.

Yuppers... when they are single units they are the same.. be they brass or black plastic.
Eventually (AAZ) both sensors were put in the same housing.

Never knew that. I found two black sensors. One listed Gauge and one not listed. Gauge sensor was like 8 bucks, the other was 17. Different part numbers, so I figure they had to have a different function.

Hmmmm... different part numbers has me concerned that I may be full of it.
I'll check my ETKA... coulda swore they were the same.
EDIT: yeah, ETKA says the single pin black sensor is 049 919 501 a 0-125C temp sensor used for the coolant gauge, glow plug relay, and oil temp gauge/MFA (if equipped). It's got M10x1 threads, just like its brass predecessor.
The black sensor with two pins is a 171 959 481A 119C A/C cutoff switch. It's got M22x1.5 threads.

Mine doesn't have threads at all. Its held in the plastic coolant flange with them o-rings and clips.
Two pins, black. I saw two different ones listed at another website, I can't even remember which one it was.
