Yeah, as a lifetime NY resident, it is a gamble, sometimes you show up for court and the officer couldn't make it and they drop charges. Sometimes you can keep calling court to postpone court date (can't get off work, etc) and then eventually the day you show you may also luck out and the officer may not show. If it's your first offense in NY (probably is, right?), it will likely get reduced to a non-point related offense and you'll pay maybe $75-$150 and be done with it. Not a biggie to worry about if you have an otherwise decent record. In the meantime, make solid friends with an officer (current or retired), someplace, anyplace, and get a courtesy PBA card or something of the sort from them, and when you're pulled over in the future show it with your license and it will likely get you a pat on the back & on your way.
