EGT's??

So i just got my 1.6td runnin in my suzuki samurai, ive been doing some testing and tuning this weekend. I have never ran one of these engines before

So my question is should my EGT's be getting into 1000+ range as quickly as it does? Im making 10psi of boost but as soon as it gets to 10psi im already getting over or really close to 1000* I will be hooking up a air to air intercooler pretty quick which should help alot, but im just wondering if this is abnormal. Also, my water temp doesnt get much hotter than 185, i heard these things are happier around 190-200.

You can run 1200'F for long periods of time without any issues imo.  I am assuming that it's a turbo block and not an na block.  The turbo block has oil squirters to cool the pistons down.  I've seen higher than that for short periods of time with no problem.  Egts can climb very quickly if the fuel timing is a little bit on the retarded side and of course large amounts of fuel being injected has the same effect.  You're also right that the intercooler will make a huge difference.

Oh yeah, nice build by the way!  Is that an intake pipe or the exhaust?

yea i havent gotten the timing setup properly yet just setup to drive i dont have tools to time it so ill bring it to a shop that does. it is a turbo block and has oil squirters the engine has been completely rebuilt with arp head studs and MLS headgasket. And that is the exhaust. I have a top mount intercooler with an electric fan, from a mitsubishi pajero that will be installed shortly with a scoop on the driverside.

there will be no river crossing in this thing, thats the exhaust. i have no room for exhaust under the passenger side and i did not want the exhaust too close to my firewall. Its 2.5" i bought a couple mandrel bent U's from the parts store and cut and welded it together then wrapped it in heat wrap so nobody burns their hand off.

heres my gauge pod me and a friend built i wouldnt want to wreck the gauges underwater thats forsure.

Well... that's a first for me. Is it angled at the tip in such a way so a heavy rain won't flood your engine?

I love that exhaust.  Very tractor like!  And if rain is an issue put a cap on it.  Have you had the samuri on the trails yet?

the tip is exposed to some rain, but i think it would take some very heavy rain to become an issue. Im pretty sure with the amount of carbon in the turbine, rust wont be an issue and when i fire it up it will just spray out any water. The angle of the tip cuts down the ease for rain to enter. I havent been on trails yet, as there is no front driveshaft yet, and im going to wait until i get some more miles on the engine.

just throw a small coffee can in your sammi.. then if its pouring, throw the coffee can over the pipe..

Turbo: exhaust gasses go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens and you go faster.

My buddy and I put a nice chrome stack on just about every tractor we owned. If you get water in them they will just spray out the water no problem...but along with the water comes an amazing ammount of black soot that you wouldn't think possible. It would get everywhere, sometimes the requiring the weekly shower a little earlier ;) It won't be a problem if you don't mind the roof of your 'Ronin' black.

yea i think the stack without water is gonna dirty it up a bit anyway so im not too concerned. and the problem with the coffee can is i really would rather not forget that on there and launch it through a window or something upon fireup.
