The reason i ask is i think i may have tightened them close to spec when installing my rod bolts and am wondering if i go a little over am i still in the elastic area of the bolt. I have an older Beltley for 1975-79 and it claims to tighten the connecting rod nut to 32ft.lbs. Probably works out close to 22ft.lbs and a quarter tune? Anyone ever tighten to the older spec for the 1.5l diesel?
the rod bolts in my 1.5 are re used, and torqued to 44 ft lbs IIRC.. and it spun LOTS of RPMS.. as many as i could turn it before the pump rollers started skipping...
As you know they are supposed to be replaced most of the time.
However.. I have never replaced a one, well one I did because my torque wrench was broken and snapped the damn thing..

You only need them for the intake stroke. Iv never replaced one on purpose either.
I rarely replace them for myself.. Never had an iissue.. If it's someone else's engine I do to cover my butt.. I know I have seen somewhere that some of the early diesels did not have stretch bolts on the rods.. I think it was discussed here at one point..
when reusing the bolts do you try to tighten to say 30ftlbs. to make sure there is a stretch?
