so my 1.6 NA was running fine after an intermediate shaft seal replacement. Then out of nowhere it starts to sputter and wouldnt restart.
replaced the seal after it fell out of the block causing me to drop most of my oil on the ground. Got it towed home and noticed oil came out the dipstick and the oil cap. Why would that happen???
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Just to note, it started again after it ran rough and i shut it down. But it was running rough and then i went to give it gas and it stalled.
Update: now it wot start at all.
How did you time the engine when you replaced that seal? I bet it is out somewhere to cause those problems.
i double checked the timing after and rotated the engine a few times to ensure the timing is right. I also checked the pump setting and its at .95 which is where it should be. I tried advancing it and i tried retarding it to get little or no change. I would imagine if the compression went to *** in the cylinder(s) it would not start right? I have a feeling that the syptoms of the seal being pushed out and the oil coming out the dipstick and oil cap would be a good indication i have serious blowby causing high crankcase pressure.
any and all thoughts are welcome. I padi 900 for the car a year ago. It has 402K kms on the engine so it owes me nothing. I might just called the time of death...
MK2?
If so; drill out the restrictors to reduce block pressure.
Not sure why it won't run.
Fuel getting to everywhere?
Pull the oil cap with it running and see how much blowby it's got.
Well i cant pull the oil cap cause it wont run period. It seems like it will start and run on two cylinders then just stall out. I think I had blowby and then the rings just gave and now i have poor compression causing one or more cylinders to not ignite.
I get an absolute ton of grey exhaust when i turn it over too. I'll step out of the car and get surrounded by it.

Care to elaborate on this?

Just keep turning it over. You've got air (gray smoke) in your fuel lines. You've gotta purge the injectors. Get another car to boost you, and keep cranking in 15 second bursts with rest periods in between till it fires.
I can almost guarantee %100 your car starts.

Goodluck
He says he gets surrounded by the smoke, meaning its hot enough in there to half burn the diesel fuel. I think it just needs more purging..

What does this sentence mean? you
had blowby? the rings
gave? Past tense?
now i have poor compression? Present tense? what happened to the motor for the rings to give and the compression to drop? is this confirmed or a theory?
