Moog part# K8358, it's uses wedges between the strut and spindle to hold it while tightening the bolts.
The top bolts in the moog kit are 10mm and the bottom bolts are 12mm. Factory is 12mm for both.
Last time I changed my struts I stripped one of the nuts so this time around I figured new hardware wouldn't hurt.
The instructions and the moog website say it's for the rear struts (obviously not vw), the rear suspension has a lighter load than the front but rockauto sold these for the rabbit.
So should I use 'em or is the smaller bolt gonna be too weak for my "high performance
" turboless bunny
?
Well I called federal mogul/moog and they said it's listed for rabbit struts, there website didn't say anything about it.
I would think as long as it isn't wobbling around then it should work. I don't like the strut system on the MKI.

Yeah I'll just go for it.
What don't you like about it? The fact that the top mount can't be removed from the assembly without a near death experiance?

Pretty much that and the ride quality and the strut towers themselves. Much more connected to the strut I don't like, but now that I am in my German built MK2 jetta I can't believe how bad all the MK1s I owned rode.
Lucas I disagree, I honestly feel no ride difference between my German built mk2 and German built mk1. Both Jetta's, both drivin spiritedly.
mk2 with kyb whites all around
mk1 with sachs hyd up front, and kyb gray in rear.
Seems the mk1 should ride worse, no ?

mk2 cars handle night and day different.. my AMERICAN rabbit handles like a caddy, way sloshy, all over the road, bottom the susp out if you aint careful..
my mk2, handles like a friggen vette, and its MEXICAN! (with loads of german parts everywhere) not sloshy at all, stuck to the road, never bottom it out..
It might make a difference if you have sway bars or not, some MK2's have 'em front and rear and some don't. I think most MK1's (rabbits at least) don't have sway bars.
good call..
my GTI - front and rear sway bars
my Rabbit - no sway bars
