Please,
Does anyone have a jpeg of the 'mpg's of the Dasher, or Rabbit, {or even the Golf, as I have misplaced my one from the GTD} as quoted by the handbooks, for me to compare with my Quantum figures. [50-65(maybe) since re-ring, up from 45-48 [UK gallons]

A few 'real life' Quantum figures from fellow owners would be great too.

Yes it's the information towards the end of the owner's booklet. There are 3 figures for each engine type, and car style, at least there are for the booklets in the mid to late 1980's. It's mainly the diesel figures I want, but if I'm sent a photo, then the other gasser stuff is also good for comparison.

I have a 1980 vw pickup, 1981 vw pickup, 1982 vw pickup and 1984 Quantum Owner's manuals. The Quantum is dark green and has 102 pages; I have seen charts on the shift points of the various transmissions, (in both mph and Km/h), data charts for engines, (gas, 5 cyl, TD) and capacities for fuel tank, cooling system oil, etc, but NO reference chart for fuel consumption, gas or diesel. Only mention of fuel economy oriented to operator driving habits. Here is a quote in boldface type in the Economy section:
"The published EPA mileage estimates may vary, depending on speed, weather and trip length. Your actual highway mileage will probably be less."

Would there be anything in the Quantum 50 pound bible? I have one of those.
Any otehr places I can check for you? ken

The  data over here in the UK and Germany, is in the technical specifications between the list of engine power outputs, and the 0 to 60mph pages.  The Bentley is quiet on the matter. I have a 1985 Bentley, but, alas, it doesn't contain some of the info on the a/c that my 1987/88 Quantums use.

On my 1987 handbook on the relevent page, I see a litttle statement:
"Depending on driving style, road and traffic conditions, environmental influences and vehicle condition, the figures obtained in actual practice may differ from those given"

If that is all that written  in your books, then that would explain the silence on 3 forums... So the handbook does not publish the EPA figures then?

We have figures for DIN and UTAC in litres per 100km. Books pre  1983ish quote the figures in miles per gallon.
Perhaps my fellow countrymen, and our Euro neighbours  can dig out their handbooks and give to the forum the figures for all the VW range...

Well, Mark...

Sorry, but nothing in any of the Rabbit, Golf, Dasher, Vanagon, or Jetta owner's manuals that I have, indicates any specific fuel mileage figures. What's important over here in Amerika is the pseudo-suede/faux-leather packet that the owner's manual arrives in! Oh that and the 2-6 page picture-laden "Quick Reference" fold-out that all manufacturers stick in the p-s/f-l packet, because they know the average Amerikan motorist just wants to know how to operate the ICE and the climate control, and won't ever read even the first 15 pages of the actual owner's manual. They also don't want us to know an exact curb weight figure on our new mobile dens of debauchery and driving delights.

For the Dashers' last gasp, you might want to consult the federal 1981 EPA guide to mileage rating for the then-"new" cars http://www.afdc.energy.gov/afdc/pdfs/1981_feg.pdf      You can probably Google just about any year's official EPA ratings on mpg. That said, however, there's a couple of things I've routinely observed there: the Amerikan cars' ratings are usually higher than most get over-the-road, and the Imports (unless they're GM/Chrysler/Ford "captive" imports") are usually woefully under-rated for MPG. Then, as you know, our gallon of rum ain't quite your gallon, so add 25% to the EPA mileage ratings to get numbers relevant to her majesty's liquid measurements.

That info is on the window sticker/sheet whatever you call it.  I have the original for my old 84 td.  It lists all the standard equipment, options and prices.  lemme go dig it out

Interesting that the 1.6TD was rated a bit lower in fuel consumption than the 1.6NA.

Are you sure? My interpretation gives the n/a a slight edge. The (XX,YY,ZZ) remember, is 56mph, 75mph, and town. The first two are done artificially, so 'beating' those on real trips is what to aim for.

Since my $22 re-ring in August, I seem to be sailing way past...

Here the Environmental Protection Agency rates cars on fuel mileage, like they have for the past 30 years with a standard test that is supposed to simulate "city" and "highway" and "combined" driving and publishes the results.
