EGT Probe in wastegate plate?

Wanting to add an EGT now and was wondering if through the wastegate plate on my T3 is a decent place to locate the probe?
Dont recall seeing anyone have one there though.

In case you arent sure where I'm talking about...the arrow is pointing to the plate.
Opinions on this would be great.    Thanks

I was afraid of something like that.  

Not sure what Ill do as there is no damn way Im pulling this turbo.
Such a PITA to install.  

Bad idea to drill the manifold now and have the shavings in there eh?

If you grease your drill bit and go slowly you'll catch most of the shavings in the grease. Then you can either vacuum the hole or not worry about it as the shavings will be blown out the exhaust. It's softer than you might think to drill and tap the manifold if you are flexible and can get up there. Nice dp flange also.

Well what I was worried about was the shavings getting blown through the exhaust turbine and doing some damage.
A real concern or just me imagining things?

A related question...I assume these probes need a hole tapped (probably NPT or something) to thread into their location?

Yeah thats about where i was thinking to do it from under the car.
Just want some assurance the small shavings that may blow out the through the turbo wont do any damage.

nope, no damage, just grease the bit and go slow, and if you have a small magnet to stick in the hole, do that itll attract any other shavings, also a vacum works good too

I read an article in Diesel Power the other day where they were talking about EGT probe installation.  They were saying they leave the engine running so the exhaust pressure prevents shavings from getting in there (along with the greased bit).

i bet having the thermocouple in the wastegate area would work really well but only when the wastegates open

yea, when there is a flow of gas going by it. but it would still never be accurate.. it needs to see actual pre turbine exhaust.
