I replaced the ball on the relay shaft and the 2 bushings on the top and bottom of the relay shaft. I started the Jetta and had no problem finding all forward gears, 1 thru 5 but no reverse. Could something be out of alignment or?
Forget this question. I put the shift rod bearing where the Relay shaft bushing should have been. I already have ordered the relay shaft bushing.
Do you have the little metal tool to align the shifter from inside the car? It is used under the shift boot and clips over the nylon reverse lock-out tab on the left side of the shifter hole.
Did you get an answer on the left-over shifter pieces?
No, I don't have the little metal tool to align the shifter. Where can I find one of those?
I think I have figured out the rest of those pieces.
wwwgermanautoparts.com sells the tool or you can make one yourself. I think the templates are in the FAQ
I looked in the FAQ section but didn't see anything about the metal tool to align the shifter.
Best way I find is to put the trans in reverse by manually setting the selector on the trans and then putting the gearshift into the reverse position and tightening the pinchnut. No template needed.
