Just don't fool with the wastegate or the max fuel screw until you get the egt gauge. Assuming the wastegate isn't frozen shut or that the PO didn't already screw with it. Get a boost gauge too. They are cheap, and beyond the tuning benefits, it is fun just to watch it react when you romp on the ol' smoke pedal. IMHO FI cars are made 10X more fun just by adding a boost gauge.
