new project
« on: September 01, 2010, 06:50:01 pm »
Hello- new member here.  I'm a long time vw nut, but this is my first diesel.  I'm fitting a 1.9TD to my 82 caddy.  I have what seems to be a generally good engine and am upgrading to Giles pump;intercooler; k14 turbo;2.5 exhaust.  I don't want anything radical, just a solid reliable upgrade. I don't plan to go beyond 20 lb. boost.

I'm currently working on the cylinder head, and it seems to be in generally good shape.  It does have small cracks in 2 of the pre-combustion inserts and a small crack between valves of #2 combustion chamber.  I'm not sure if these are serious or not..... depends on whom you talk with I guess.

I'm hoping some of you experienced members would be willing to take a look at a few images of the cracks I have taken with a close-up digital camera.  Please let me know if anyone is willing to take a look.  Thanks in advance for your interest.  This is going to be a fun project. Feel free to contact me at newbielink:mailto:[email protected] [nonactive] if you are willing to share your knowledge and I will send you the images.

Best bet is to post your images here... the FAQ has the instructions.

If you want to go to 20psi I would recommend looking into a different turbo. I have found the K14 to be very inefficient at higher rpm's. It does produce nearly instant boost though at just a blip of the accelerator. I am leaning towards adding a 2nd larger LP turbo or swapping it out for a VNT.  Do yourself a favor and figure this out before you drop a bunch of coin on a custom downpipe and intake piping like some fool I know. :-[.

I just swapped a AAZ into my MKI this winter. If you like torquey, you are going to absolutely love it.
