finding TDC with 190mm flywheel transplanted on my AAZ
« on: August 26, 2010, 05:55:38 pm »
Hi all!!  I am dropping an AAZ engine in my caddy and I am going to change the timing belt.  However, I am running my old 1.6D tranny with the AAZ and I needed to change the flywheel from my 1.6 onto the AAZ motor.

My question is; will the smaller flywheel mess up my ability to find TDC?

I've never touched a 1.9

But 1 revolution, is 1 revolution, inside my head.
Get the 1.9 flywheel at TDC, then install the 1.6 flywheel in the same reference position.

Should get you squared away on that.
Surely (hopefully) they didn't change the bolt pattern on the crank between the 1.6 - 1.9

Don't use the 1.6 FW...You will have a better clutch set up if you use the 1.9. The 1.9 is 210mm and as long as you have a small 24 spline disc all is well. The 1.9 is a great upgrade, but if all you have is the 1.6 stuff then it will work fine, they didn't change the crank end bolt pattern.

Man, that would surely mess with your mind if they had them off by say a half a bolt.  That they lined up with the holes but the indication mark was off.

I am thinking like you though one rev is one rev, doesn't matter the diameter.  Just where the indication mark is set.

Trust VW to keep like alike, I bet they swap just fine.

Yep, I have a 1.9 setup on my 1.6. It is no problem either way. Good luck.
